Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić met today, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, with OSCE Secretary General Feridun Sinirlioğlu.
The officials discussed current security challenges in Europe and the wider region, as well as the role of the OSCE in the context of the changed dynamics of international relations.
Đurić emphasised that at a time when the very structure of the international system is being questioned, dialogue has no alternative, and respect for international law is the only reliable basis for stability.
The head of Serbian diplomacy stressed that for Serbia, the OSCE, as a comprehensive platform, retains its relevance and importance, and that the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity, established in the Helsinki Final Act, remain fundamental principles for which Serbia consistently advocates.
He reiterated the readiness of the Republic of Serbia to continue close cooperation with the OSCE Mission to Serbia in all domains of its activities, with the conviction that institutional cooperation and capacity improvement contribute to strengthening democratic standards and the rule of law.
Speaking about the situation in Kosovo and Metohija, Đurić pointed out the importance of the presence and activities of the OSCE Mission to Kosovo and Metohija (OMIK) in an undiminished capacity, bearing in mind the complex circumstances in which the Serbian people find themselves.
The Serbian Foreign Minister stressed that it is of utmost importance to preserve all OMIK programs and mechanisms aimed at protecting the rights and security of non-Albanian communities, and that it is necessary to prevent any attempt at their marginalisation.
Referring to regional issues, he reiterated that Serbia remains strongly committed to preserving peace and stability in the region, as key prerequisites for economic development and overall prosperity.
Serbia will continue to act as a constructive and reliable partner, committed to cooperation, building trust and stabilising the situation in the immediate environment, said Đurić.
