Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, attended today the ceremonial handover of keys to five fire engines to members of the Ministry of the Interior’s Emergency Situations Sector in Belgrade.
Macut noted that today’s handover of the new fire engines is a concrete step in strengthening the capacity of the Sector and that the Government will continue to invest in equipment, vehicles and training, given that the safety of citizens is invaluable.
According to him, the project to procure a total of 22 modern fire engines is worth nearly RSD 1 billion, demonstrating the state’s clear commitment to making the Emergency Situations Sector even stronger, more modern and more efficient.
The Prime Minister recalled that it was the members of this Sector who performed heroic deeds during severe weather in January, when snow, ice and high winds paralysed certain parts of the country, as well as a few months earlier, when the country was hit by a severe drought.
The state is proud of you, Macut said, and on behalf of the Government of Serbia, expressed deep gratitude and respect to the members of the Ministry of the Interior’s Emergency Situations Sector.
We will continue to work together responsibly, in an organised and dedicated manner, in order to ensure safety and peace for every citizen, the Prime Minister concluded.
The keys to the new fire engines were handed over to Head of the Department for Fire and Rescue Units Nedeljko Gagić by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dačić, who stated that there were approximately 40,000 interventions last year, which was the most in the last 20 years.
He pointed out that due to extreme climate change, there are more and more emergency situations and that the Sector must therefore strengthen and, in the coming years, become technically capable of carrying out all possible interventions.
