Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Professor Dragan Glamočić, PhD, participated today in the final conference of the project “Strengthening the Resilience of the Agricultural Sector to Natural Disasters”.
The project, implemented in Serbia by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, and with the financial support of the European Union, has officially been completed after five years of intensive work on strengthening capacities, policies and practices in the field of climate-resilient agriculture.
Opening the final conference, Glamočić recalled that the project was launched in March 2021 and that over the past years, with the help of EU funds, FAO has been working dedicatedly on one of the most important goals for the future of agriculture in our country: creating climate-resilient agriculture.
He said that the Ministry of Agriculture has been directly supported in integrating climate-smart agriculture into the most important planning documents and the IPARD program, training has been provided to employees of the Ministry, and working groups have been formed that will continue their work after the project.
The final conference was also addressed by Ambassador and Head of the European Union Delegation to Serbia Andreas von Beckerath and FAO Deputy Regional Representative for Europe and Central Asia Nabil Gangi.
With the completion of this project, Serbia has taken a significant step towards a more modern, sustainable and climate-resilient agriculture, aligned with the goals of the EU and the Green Deal. The results achieved and lessons learned provide a solid foundation for further investment in agricultural resilience and long-term food security.
