Minister of Justice Nenad Vujić today issued the strongest condemnation of the armed attack on Serbs in Dečani, in Kosovo and Metohija, in which two Serb civilians were seriously injured.
Vujić pointed out that this was yet another grave crime directed against the Serbian people, which cannot be viewed as an isolated incident, but rather as part of continuous violence, intimidation and pressure to which Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija have been exposed for years by the provisional institutions in Priština.
According to him, this attack is a direct consequence of an atmosphere of impunity and open hatred towards Serbs that is systematically spread and encouraged by Priština.
Responsibility does not lie solely with the direct perpetrators, but also with all those who have allowed the promotion of violence against Serbs and who encourage such violence to become a daily occurrence, the Minister stated.
He said that he demands an urgent and impartial investigation to be conducted by international missions in Kosovo and Metohija, the identification of the attackers and their strictest punishment, as well as a clear determination of the responsibility of the provisional institutions in Priština, which, through their actions, encourage and justify these and similar crimes.
Vujić particularly stressed that international missions with a mandate to ensure peace and security in Kosovo and Metohija have an obligation to protect the Serb population, and that any failure on their part to react represents an additional endangerment of the basic human rights of Serbs.
The Republic of Serbia will not remain silent in the face of violence against its people. All attacks on Serbs will be documented and presented to the relevant international bodies, especially the Security Council, the Minister said.
Vujić added that the Ministry of Justice is providing full support to the injured and their families, noting that the state of Serbia will continue to use all available legal and institutional means to protect Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija.
