Đurić underlined that the United States is one of Serbia's most important foreign policy partners, stating that our country is firmly committed to further strengthening overall ties with that country in the coming period.
The Minister highlighted the importance of the strategic dialogue with the United States, noting that deepening cooperation is in the common interest.
The Serbian Foreign Minister said that, in this regard, we attach great importance to meetings with American officials, with the aim of exchanging views on priority topics and strengthening mutual trust.
He informed his interlocutor about the situation in Kosovo and Metohija, especially about the extremely difficult position of our people, who are constantly exposed to systematic pressure.
The interlocutors exchanged views on the current geopolitical challenges, as well as cooperation in the fields of economy and energy, and Đurić explained the complex situation Serbia is in after the imposition of sanctions on the Naftna Industrija Srbije (NIS).
Đurić also met with Congressman William Keating, Co-Chairman of the Subcommittee on Europe of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
The interlocutors discussed the prospects for Serbian-American relations, political dialogue, economic cooperation, as well as the possibilities for further improving cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
The Minister also discussed with the Congressman the importance of our diaspora as a kind of bridge between the two peoples, which contributes to better mutual understanding.
The two officials also discussed the extremely difficult situation of the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija, as well as the energy situation in Serbia, after the entry into force of sanctions against NIS.
During the talks with Pat Harrigan, a member of the House of Representatives Military Committee and a member of the Serbian Caucus in the US Congress, Đurić stressed that Serbia remains strongly committed to further strengthening relations with the US, which are based on diplomatic ties spanning more than a century.
The interlocutors assessed that relations between the two countries are on the rise and that this positive momentum should be used in the direction of the strategic dialogue we are striving for.
The Minister underlined that Serbia is ready to continue improving bilateral cooperation in the political and economic spheres, as well as in other areas of mutual interest.
He invited Harrigan to visit Belgrade and Serbia and get to know its rich cultural and historical heritage firsthand, in which Harrigan showed interest.
