Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić opened today in Belgrade a Meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Central European Initiative (CEI), which brought together representatives of all 16 member states of the initiative.
On this occasion, Đurić said that Serbia, during its chairmanship of the CEI for 2025, has sought to contribute to the achievement of the key goals of this initiative, as well as to the strengthening of ties between member states.
Commenting on the theme of today’s meeting – Strengthening the CEI region through Connectivity, Innovation and Integration – the Minister emphasised that it reflects a common vision of building a region that is more coherent, resilient and future-oriented.
At this moment, we find ourselves in a complex historical context, and there are sensitive issues that could threaten our strength and unity. Despite these challenges, we remain steadfast in fulfilling the key goals and priorities of our chairmanship of this regional initiative, he said.
According to him, connectivity in the areas of transport, energy, digital development or environmental protection remains the most effective way to accelerate growth, increase competitiveness and bring citizens of these countries closer together.
The head of Serbian diplomacy also specifically pointed out that innovations allow us to adapt to global changes, develop smarter solutions and ensure that the CEI region remains dynamic and competitive, while strengthening integration processes increases stability and creates new opportunities for cooperation and development.
And while our region faces political and economic challenges, we are guided by the conviction that unity, dialogue and mutual support are the safest way forward, emphasised Đurić.
During the meeting, the results of Serbia’s one-year chairmanship of this initiative were summarised, and then the chairmanship was handed over to Romania.
