Macura, who is on a two-day visit to London, where she is leading a delegation consisting of representatives of NALED, units of local government, economy and the media, as part of the Small and Powerful campaign, with the support of the British Embassy in Serbia, pointed out that in Serbia, twice as many women participate in starting and running small businesses compared to the United Kingdom.
She stated that in the UK, about 15% of women participate in organising small businesses, while in Serbia, that percentage is as high as 30%.
The Minister explained that such outcomes are the result of the state’s strategic approach and coordinated actions of several departments that support female entrepreneurship.
Serbia has a clear state strategy that encourages the economic empowerment of women. In addition to the Ministry of Economy and the Development Fund, this issue is also addressed by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, the Ministry for Family Care and Demography, the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs, as well as the Office she heads, Macura specified.
She particularly pointed out the importance of discussions and exchange of experiences at the UK Department of Trade and Industry on measures to support women in family and small businesses.
During her visit to London, the Minister also met with British Minister for Equalities Seema Malhotra, with whom she discussed strengthening cooperation in the field of gender equality, prevention of violence against women, and political and economic empowerment of women.
Macura also spoke with a member of the UK Parliament and the Friendship Group with Serbia, who had previously visited our country.
