Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić met today with Italian Minister for Relations with Parliament Luca Ciriani to discuss the advancement of bilateral relations, Serbia’s European path and current regional issues.
Đurić emphasised that Serbia and Italy foster friendly and close relations based on strategic partnership.
He assessed that Italy is one of Serbia’s most important economic partners and that there is a mutual interest in further deepening cooperation.
The head of Serbian diplomacy said that Serbia’s key priorities include preserving stability in the region, the country’s political and military neutrality, as well as accession to the European Union.
In this context, he expressed belief that in the coming period, conditions will be created for the opening of Cluster 3, which would represent an additional incentive for the process of Serbia’s European integration.
Đurić particularly pointed out the engagement of Italian soldiers as part of KFOR, who make a significant contribution to maintaining security and stability in Kosovo and Metohija and protecting Serbian cultural heritage.
The Minister also recalled that Serbia this year chairs the Central European Initiative (CEI), which, with the strong support of Italy, has been contributing to the economic development of member states for three decades.
