In her address at the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women, which is being held to mark the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, Macura assessed that these principles represent not only a political framework, but also a shared vision of a society of equal opportunities.
She emphasised that Serbia is proud of being ranked 22nd in the world and first in the region in terms of women’s success in politics, as well as the fact that 52% of scientists in Serbia are women.
According to her, the 40% decrease in the number of deaths related to domestic violence compared to the period 15 years ago is an indicator that progress is not accidental, but is the result of clear political will and social maturity.
Macura emphasised that Serbia continues to strengthen support for women by increasing funds for their economic empowerment, but also through policies that encourage a balance between preserving traditional values and progress towards greater equality.
At the opening ceremony of this summit, President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping addressed the gathering, stressing the importance of strengthening the protection of women and girls in regions affected by war and poverty, resolutely combating all forms of violence against women, as well as including women in reconstruction and social governance processes, as well as empowering women through science, technology and the green economy.
