Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić stated, after participating in the Berlin Process Foreign Ministers Meeting, held today in Belfast, that Serbia acted responsibly, constructively and with an eye on the future at this important gathering.
Đurić stressed that Serbia has a clear and unambiguous European perspective and that the gathering discussed concrete ways to accelerate the integration process, especially ahead of the upcoming visit of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to Belgrade.
Bearing in mind that reconciliation in the region was a special topic of discussion, the head of Serbian diplomacy reminded that the wars of the past have left deep scars, but that it is crucial to look forward and work on a common future.
He stated that the meeting also discussed current regional issues, including the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and relations between Belgrade and Priština, and stressed that Serbia always uses every opportunity to present facts and defend its positions with arguments.
Đurić emphasised that Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, as well as the Serbian Government, protect Serbian national interests everywhere and in every place.
In addition, we are mindful of our responsibility to contribute to preserving stability in the region as a key prerequisite for economic development and for preserving the young generation, said Đurić.
In this regard, the head of Serbian diplomacy expressed satisfaction that Serbia sent a strong message from Hillsborough Castle that it is ready for the EU, but for an equal place at the table.
In talks with the foreign ministers of Germany, the UK and a number of EU member states from our region, Đurić pointed out the results that Serbia is achieving, both in the economy and in reforms.
He noted that Serbia today represents a country that has more than doubled the growth of its economy in less than a decade, and that for further progress it is essential to keep channels of cooperation with its neighbours open.
Đurić also spoke about the challenges that the future holds, especially in the context of rapid technological development and the impact of artificial intelligence, and stated that he presented Serbia’s initiatives within the framework of the chairmanship of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence, pointing out the challenges that this technology will bring not only to economies, but also to information and political processes in the region.
The Serbian Foreign Minister assessed as positive that some of the highest officials of the EU member states could hear a renewed commitment to EU enlargement.
According to him, Serbia is located at the central crossroads of Southeast Europe and therefore, without us, as equals at that table, there is no complete process of European unification.
The Serbian Foreign Minister said that Serbia gave millions of lives for the freedom of Europe in the 20th century, and that today it contributes economically, culturally and in other ways.
