At this place of greatest suffering in the territory of occupied Serbia during World War II, according to official data, from the summer of 1941 to the autumn of 1943, the Nazis shot 80,000 Serbs, Jews and Roma.
A wreath was laid at the memorial on behalf of President of the Republic Aleksandar Vučić, by his advisor and envoy Miloš Vučević, who led the ceremony.
Addressing the audience, Vučević said that the suffering of World War II must never be repeated and that Jajinci is not only a place of death, but also a place of a covenant that binds us to harmony and unity.
He emphasised that we are obliged to convey to each new generation the truth about the terrible days that our people went through.
As he noted, in that bloody history of suffering, the execution ground in Jajinci holds a special place, because in this place, along with the Serbs, our citizens, our brothers, Jews and Roma were brutally put to death.
The audience was also addressed by the survivor of the concentration camp Slavko Milanović, who stated that this commemoration preserves the memory of innocent victims and sends a message to future generations, especially young people who are now coming of age, that fascism and Nazism are a great evil that divides people by race, nation and religion.
