Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić participated today in New York in a meeting of the foreign ministers of the Western Balkan countries with the heads of diplomacy of the Friends of the Western Balkans group.
Đurić emphasised that full membership in the European Union is a strategic obligation and the highest priority of Serbia’s foreign policy, stating that it is a long-term vision that determines the direction of our state and society.
According to him, Serbia has set itself a clear and ambitious goal to complete all necessary reforms and fully harmonise its legislation with the EU acquis by the end of 2026, which would provide Serbian citizens with a higher standard of living, stability, prosperity and a better quality of life.
He stressed that Serbia highly appreciates the European Union's commitment to preserving the European perspective of the Western Balkans, adding that the European path represents a guarantee of cooperation in solving common challenges and contributes to the prosperity and stability of the region.
The Minister pointed out that initiatives such as the Economic and Investment Plan for the Western Balkans and the Growth Plan already demonstrate the value of partnership and solidarity, emphasising that Serbia is actively involved in regional projects that improve connectivity, energy efficiency and digital development throughout the Western Balkans.
Speaking about the accession process, the Serbian Foreign Minister said that Serbia needs clear and measurable criteria and valorisation of the achieved results.
Đurić stated that Serbia is ready to accelerate reforms, noting that the timely opening of new negotiation clusters, especially Cluster 3, would provide additional motivation and energy for progress on our path towards full membership.
