Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić addressed the opening of the Consulate of the Republic of South Africa in Belgrade, which, under the leadership of Honorary Consul Marko Bumbaširević, will cover the entire territory of the Republic of Serbia.
Đurić emphasised that Serbia and South Africa share not only diplomatic relations, but also a decades-long friendship based on shared values, solidarity and respect for the principles of international law.
He stated that today’s steps to improve cooperation represent a continuation of the vision established by great world statesmen, such as Nelson Mandela, who testified with his life to the values of peace, reconciliation and justice.
The Foreign Minister stressed that Serbia will support the expansion of the Security Council at the upcoming session of the UN General Assembly in order to ensure fairer and broader representation, including representatives of the African continent.
The Minister expressed special gratitude to the people and Government of South Africa for the support they provided to Serbia in difficult times, as well as for their principled stance regarding the preservation of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Serbia, especially in the context of the issue of Kosovo and Metohija.
The opening ceremony of the Consulate was attended by Honorary Consul Marko Bumbaširević, Ambassador of the Republic of South Africa Lindiwe Msengana-Ndlela, who covers Serbia on a non-residential basis, as well as numerous other dignitaries.
