On the occasion of the first celebration of the Day of the Non-Aligned Movement, Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, visited today an exhibition dedicated to the Movement’s first conference, held in Belgrade in 1961.
Together with Speaker of the National Assembly Ana Brnabić and the ambassadors of India, Indonesia, Ghana and Egypt to Serbia, Macut visited the exhibition in the House of the National Assembly and stated that the goal is to renew old friendships and establish prospects for future cooperation.
He recalled that at the first summit, which was held in 1961 in the building of the National Assembly of Serbia, the founders of the Movement laid the foundation for a large movement that today brings together 120 countries, and in which Serbia has the role of observer.
We continue to cherish those historical ideas about a world based on the absence of geopolitical divisions and which represents a view into the future of the 21st century, the Prime Minister concluded.
The First Conference of Heads of State and Government of the Non-Aligned Countries began in Belgrade 64 years ago and was attended by representatives of 25 countries and 40 anti-colonial and liberation movements.
After six days of work, the gathering adopted documents on the principles of non-alignment.
