Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Đedović Handanović stated today that the US Department of the Treasury has postponed, for the sixth time, the implementation of sanctions on Naftna Industrija Srbije (NIS), this time until 26 September.
Đedović Handanović underlined that NIS will continue to regularly supply the domestic market with oil and oil derivatives even in difficult circumstances.
According to her, the end goal is to remove NIS from the list of sanctions of the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the US Department of the Treasury, which is a process that does not depend on Serbia.
The Minister pointed out that by postponing sanctions so far, Serbia has managed to preserve its energy security and that, despite the complex circumstances beyond our control, it secured enough crude oil for the refinery, thus enabling it to continue operating.
We are grateful to the US administration for its understanding to date. The situation remains complex and the state continues to invest maximum efforts and conduct an active dialogue with both US and Russian sides, she emphasised.
Đedović Handanović recalled that Serbia in no way contributed to the introduction of sanctions on NIS and that they are the result of global politics, adding that the state will continue to fight by all diplomatic means possible to secure stable supply for our citizens and the economy.
