It was emphasised that the line ministry and veterinary services involved in the suppression of infectious diseases are implementing all measures in accordance with the law, while the relevant veterinary inspections are continuously present in the field.
An announcement was made of intensified cooperation with the police, increased control of animal movement and slaughter and suppression of illegal transport, along with the introduction of stricter penalties for non-compliance with prescribed measures. All of these represent key activities in the continued fight against infectious animal diseases and in the protection of domestic livestock.
African swine fever in domestic pigs is currently active in four districts and seven local self-government units, namely Loznica, Bogatić, Šabac, Odžaci, Apatin, Sremska Mitrovica and Bač. The disease has also been confirmed in 118 wild boars in the territory of nine administrative districts.
Since the beginning of 2025, 146 pigs have died in infected farms, while a total of 2,884 pigs have been euthanised, with safe disposal of carcasses and disinfection of farms carried out.
In southeastern Serbia, bluetongue disease has also been confirmed, while there is a risk of an outbreak of peste des petits ruminants in the territory of Kosovo and Metohija, although no cases of this viral disease have been confirmed so far.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management continues to monitor the situation daily, implement all necessary measures and regularly inform the public about the situation in the field, the statement said.
