Zoran Stojkovic
Stojkovic said on the occasion that among some fifty calls, most of the complaints regarded the slow work of individual judges, and the time consuming procedure of passing sentences, in which matter the largest number of complaints were made about courts in Ruma, Sid and Leskovac.
According to Stojkovic, the problem that Serbian judiciary has to deal with is indeed the length of procedures, principally in litigious cases, which in some cases last up to nine or 12 years.
He said that according to the jurisdiction of his office, he will demand that certain court procedures are accelerated, adding that Serbian citizens, in accordance with international standards, have the right to justice in a reasonable period of time.
If responsible organs fail to secure that, citizens should approach the International Court in Strasburg for compensation of damage done to them by lengthy procedures, which should be provided to them by the state, explained Minister Stojkovic.
