Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić spoke today with Speaker of the Parliament of Benin Louis Vlavonou about improving parliamentary cooperation between the two countries, as well as maintaining regular political dialogue.
Đurić assessed that parliamentary cooperation is an important segment that can contribute to strengthening and intensifying relations between the two countries, and in this regard pointed out the importance of parliamentary friendship groups, expressing hope that such groups will be formed in both parliaments in the near future.
He conveyed to his interlocutor the greetings from Speaker of the National Assembly of Serbia Ana Brnabić, as well as an invitation to visit our country as soon as possible, announcing that upon his return to Belgrade, he will formally submit an initiative for the establishment of a Serbia-Benin parliamentary group.
The meeting also looked at the possibility of improving economic cooperation, as well as cooperation in specific areas, such as agriculture, culture, education and sports.
After today’s meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Benin Olushegun Adjadi Bakari, Đurić stated that Serbia is genuinely interested in establishing close and substantial relations with the country.
In a joint address to the media, Đurić recalled that Serbia and Benin share similar positions on numerous global issues, reflecting the common values of the two countries, including respect for the United Nations Charter and commitment to the peaceful resolution of disputes among great powers.
He added that both sides are focused on economic growth and the well-being of their citizens.
The Minister noted that special attention during the talks was given to cooperation in the field of education and announced that Serbia would offer a number of scholarships for students from Benin.
He also announced that Serbia would encourage young Serbian professionals and students to spend time in Benin.
Bakari conveyed that, during today’s meeting with his Serbian counterpart, multiple specific areas for establishing cooperation were identified, emphasising that the meeting marked the beginning of more intensive and dynamic relations between Serbia and Benin.
Following the meeting between the two ministers, an Agreement was signed between the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Government of the Republic of Benin on the abolition of visas for holders of diplomatic, official and service passports.
