Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Professor Dragan Glamočić, PhD, attended the opening ceremony of the 2nd UN Food Systems Summit Stocktake (UNFSS+4), which is being held in Addis Ababa.
The summit was opened by Prime Minister of Italy Giorgia Meloni and Prime Minister of Ethiopia Abiy Ahmed, with a key message that food security is a priority of global importance.
Glamočić said that the report of the United Nations Secretary-General presented at this summit shows that the transformation of food systems is becoming an increasingly important global priority.
He emphasised that Serbia, as a country with a long agrarian tradition and great potential in agriculture, recognises the importance of strengthening its own food systems, not only for the purpose of stable supply of the domestic population, but also as a contribution to global food security.
The Minister emphasised that this summit provided additional encouragement to continue on the path of reforms, as well as to strengthen advocacy for fair access to agriculture finance.
He pointed out that without sufficient investment and without international solidarity, there is no global food security, stating that Serbia will continue to be a partner to all countries and organisations that believe in the values of fair trade, healthy food, inclusive rural development and the right of every person to have access to quality food.
After the plenary part of the summit, Glamočić had bilateral meetings with the Minister of Agriculture of Uzbekistan, the Minister of Agriculture of Equatorial Guinea and the Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture of Seychelles.
During the meetings, the Minister expressed gratitude for the principled support that these countries provide for the territorial integrity of Serbia and for the fact that they do not recognise the unilaterally declared independence of the so-called Kosovo.
