Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić met today with President of the Republic of Ghana John Dramani Mahama.
During the meeting, it was noted that the relations between the two countries are characterised by decades of friendship, based on mutual respect and cooperation, which date back to the time of their establishment and joint participation in the Non-Aligned Movement.
The head of Serbian diplomacy emphasised that Serbia and Ghana share similar positions on numerous international issues, including the commitment to respecting the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Minister expressed his gratitude to Ghana for its continuous and principled support for Serbia on the issue of Kosovo and Metohija, as well as for its support in international organisations.
Đurić also recalled the participation of Ghanaian representatives in the gathering which marked the 60th anniversary of establishment of the Non-Aligned Movement, held in Belgrade in 2021.
According to him, this once again confirmed the friendly relations between the two countries, as well as the commitment to peace, solidarity, tolerance and other values on which the Movement is based.
The Minister particularly expressed his satisfaction with the signing of bilateral memorandums in the fields of culture and sports, which will serve as the basis for further institutional cooperation in these areas.
The interlocutors agreed that there is significant potential for improving cooperation in other areas such as defence, agriculture, infrastructure and information technology.
Đurić also met with Minister of Defence of Ghana Edward Omane Boamah in Accra today, with whom he discussed opportunities for improving defence cooperation.
He stated that the framework for this is the Defence Cooperation Agreement signed by the two countries in 2023, adding that training programmes, as well as the exchange of experiences from peacekeeping operations, can contribute to strengthening this cooperation, bearing in mind that both Serbia and Ghana are leading contributors in terms of the participation of their forces in multinational operations on their continents.
The head of Serbian diplomacy informed his interlocutor about the situation in the Western Balkans and the efforts that Serbia is making for regional stability. The two ministers also discussed current developments and challenges at the global level.
On this occasion, Đurić invited the Minister of Defence of Ghana to visit the International Arms and Military Equipment Fair "Partner", which will be held in Serbia in September.
