Stojkovic said that the aim is to set more social and human rather than repressive elements.
The cooperation with UNICEF and the Swedish government made it possible for us to get a modern Law on juvenile judiciary, the Minister said and announced that this cooperation will continue.
The Minister, UNICEF Director for Serbia Ann Lee Swenson and representatives of the Swedish Embassy attended the promotion of the grading system and progress made in reforms in the Correctional Centre in Krusevac.
Swenson said that this programme, which was supported by UNICEF and the Swedish government, was implemented by the Correctional Centre in Krusevac during the past three years, as part of the project of reforming juvenile legislation titled “Opportunity for Children to Change”.
According to Swenson, this day marks the end of the phase which lasted several years during which people were successfully trained for the new method of work with young offenders.
The Serbian Minister of Justice, together with representatives of the UNICEF and the Swedish embassy, attended a reception hosted by the president of the municipality, following which he visited the Correctional Centre where he held a meeting on the theme of preventing juvenile delinquency and help for young offenders during the time they spend at the Correctional Centre.
Later Stojkovic met with president and judges of the Krusevac District Court, presidents of regional courts, district prosecutor, municipal and regional prosecutors, and heads of the council of magistrates.
