In a working breakfast with journalists held following the onset of project “Urgent Reconstruction of Health Centres in Serbia”, Milosavljevic explained that the Serbian government approved these funds as part of the National Investment Plan.
The 2006-2011 National Investment Plan envisions investment in education, modernisation of health system and environmental protection, building traffic infrastructure, stimulation of economic development, house building, upgrading citizens’ living standards and public administration development. The funds will come from budget surplus, privatisation revenues and additional loans.
Milosavljevic explained that the Ministry of Health did this project on the basis of established priorities for investment maintenance and procurement of equipment for health centres on the primary level of health protection and announced that a competition procedure will be open in the next two months for contractors. The works are expected to last for 90 days, he said.
The Minister said that depending on needs, funds will be invested in all health centres in Serbia. He also noted that health centres in poor and rural areas are in the worst position.
