On this occasion, Đurić noted that the summit was a historic moment for Europe, one that laid the foundations of the modern EU. He added that the anniversary offers an opportunity to reflect on where Europe stands today and how it responds to the major challenges facing not only the continent but the world as a whole.
He remarked that, during the gathering, he would send the message that Serbia deserves an equal place in the EU, that it advocates for a united and cohesive Europe, as well as for a harmonious Balkans united in cooperation, mutual respect and equality among peoples and states.
The head of Serbian diplomacy announced that, in his address at the summit, he would present the reforms Serbia has implemented, its economic progress, and the fact that, through Expo and various other forms of cooperation in which Serbia plays a leading role, the country contributes in a constructive and positive way.
Serbia stands firmly on its own feet and extends a hand of cooperation, and just as six countries came together in Messina 70 years ago to form the EU, Serbia today aspires to be a cornerstone of stability and peace in the Balkans, the Minister stated.
