Today at the Belgrade fairgrounds, Serbian Minister of Capital Investment Velimir Ilic officially opened two specialised international events - the international specialised fair of packaging and packaging equipment and the international specialised exhibition of machines, equipment, raw materials, additives and seasonings for the baking, confectionery and catering industries.

Ilic pointed out the significance of such fairs, which are being held in Serbia for the first time, and added that Serbia spends $150 million a year on importing machines for manufacturing packaging equipment, and another $50 million on packaging machinery.
Packaging is of great relevance to Serbia’s exports, because the EU insists on a new and combined transport of goods comprising standardised shipping containers, to which the price of the packaging should also be adjusted.
Minister Ilic recalled that Italy has provided a $33 million loan to Serbia for the purpose of purchasing packaging machinery and machines for manufacturing packaging equipment.
The fair will be open till September 17, and it has gathered about 320 exhibitioners from 35 countries, with Italy holding a special exhibition, since it is the country from which Serbia imports the largest portion of this kind of machinery.
