Miroljub Labus
Labus said that a critical meeting concerning the European Commission’s report is also to take place soon, and with negotiations for Serbia-Montenegro’s accession to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) scheduled for October 7, the government will conduct three very important meetings held over a period of seven days, from October 3 to 10.
Today’s session of the Serbian parliament’s Committee for European Integration saw a unanimous adoption of the government’s third report on the course of implementation of the action plan for realization of priorities and the European partnership, after which Labus voiced hope that the parliament would continue its work to pass many important laws by the end of September.
The Deputy Prime Minister said that the Serbian government's negotiating team adopted a draft of the platform for negotiations in Brussels during which EU Enlargement Commissioner Ollie Rehn will lay out that side’s negotiating position.
Labus said that the Serbian government's platform is based on the "Agenda 2012" principle, which means that Serbia-Montenegro should get prepared for membership by that year.
He said that the EU expects strict respect and realisation of the agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), stressing that macro financial aid depends on the implementation of this agreement. This year's aid amounts to around $100 million.
The Deputy Prime Minister recalled that in the past year and a half the fourth and fifth revisions of the agreement with the IMF have been successfully completed, and that only one remains.
He explained that as part of that sixth revision there are several open issues that have to be solved, such as separation of certain enterprises from public companies, setting conditions for calling a tender for a privatisation advisor for the state oil company NIS, and the issue of pension law which is currently on the parliament's agenda.
According to Labus, the IMF mission will visit Belgrade in a month, which means that there are several weeks left for the harmonisation of positions.
