Serbian Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government Zoran Loncar said opening a meeting of the working group tasked with the preparation of the national strategy to develop the information society in Serbia that this is an integral part of the government's five-year plan to reform the public administration.

Loncar explained that the aim of this reform is the creation of a more efficient public administration that would be in the service of citizens. He said that while the Serbian government’s ministries are technically well equipped, problems exist at the local level.
More than 130 experts participated in today's meeting, including many international experts who came at the invitation of the UNDP.
The national strategy for an information society covers the following areas, among others: evaluating the current state of affairs in Serbia, constructing an institutional framework for the development of an information society, establishing a legal framework, building the information infrastructure, enabling electronic administration, and implementing information systems into education, health care, the economy and e-banking.
The draft of the strategy will be available on the
UNDP's website as of September 8.
