Milan Parivodic
During his visit to Kragujevac, Parivodic invited all mayors and municipal presidents in Serbia to recognize the efforts of the mayor of Kragujevac, Veroljub Stevanovic, who has, according to Parivodic, successfully implemented reforms concerning leasing farmland, with the aim of opening new jobs.
The price of farmland is a fundamental obstacle to investments in Serbia, and Kragujevac leases farmland at incomparably lower prices than other cities, which has resulted in a genuine investment boom in Kragujevac, Parivodic said.
Parivodic recalled that in Kragujevac, Swisslion, Merkator and Metro are building facilities with approximately 40,000, 20,000 and 10,000 square metres respectively, which means 1,500 new jobs, as well as work for construction companies.
The government cannot itself direct foreign investment, but it can create conditions to help investors choose for themselves what to invest in, Parivodic said and added that in his opinion Kragujevac is a pioneering town when it comes to foreign investment.
Kragujevac has very good chances for more foreign investments, not only because of the favourable price of farmland, but also because it is a university town, with a 200 year-old industrial tradition and a substantial workforce.
