Jablanica district’s growth opportunities lie in small business, food sector, tourism

Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Miroljub Labus said today that a natural gas supply network in Leskovac and other towns in the Jablanica district is not in question but he added that the building of the network will be resumed when certain conditions are created.

In a meeting with heads of municipalities and businesspeople in the Jablanica district, as part of the “Europe Knocks on Your Door” campaign, Labus said that he expects the gas network to be completed in the next four or five years.
According to him, the district opportunities for growth and development lie in small business, food production, tourism, and wood processing.
Labus, who is also the chief negotiator in talks with the EU, said that Serbia will meet EU requirements much faster if it perseveres in removing obstacles on the road to Europe.
He added that people in Serbia are willing to work and to create and that they are looking for jobs in their homeland. The EU, according to Labus, is “aware of that and it knows Serbia’s problems, and that is why they have development programmes and a will to help Serbia”, but he added Serbia’s own contribution to European integration is also very significant.
Also attending the meeting were Serbian Minister of International Economic Relations Milan Parivodic, French Ambassador to Serbia-Montenegro Hugues Pernet, and Head of the Serbian EU Integration Office Tanja Miscevic.
The Serbian government’s delegation and the French ambassador will also visit Leskovac’s textile museum, the Vucje hydroelectric power plant, and the local textile school.
