Labus said that “Italia a Belgrado 2004” resulted in almost one thousand bilateral meetings and an increase of over 50 percent in trade exchange between Serbia and Italy.
Labus also added that Italy is among Serbia’s top three trade partners.
Italian Ambassador to Serbia-Montenegro Antonio Zanardi Landi said that this year’s event will bring in even more businesspeople than last year’s.
He called on Serbian businesspeople to register by May 20 and express their areas of interest regarding cooperation with Italian partners.
He noted that the organisers of the event will be the Italian Embassy to Belgrade, Italian Institute for Foreign Trade (ICE), Italian Chamber of Commerce and the Italian entrepreneurs association Confindustria.
Zanardi Landi confirmed that this year’s event will tackle specific fields, including textile, food and machinery industries, with up to 20 seminars on Italy’s core sectors and crediting and financing facilities.
Italian bank Banca Intesa, which recently took over Belgrade’s Delta Banka, will have a special presentation as part of the event, Zanardi Landi said.
According to Zanardi Landi, another Italian bank is interested in entering the Serbian financial market. He also announced a visit of some 50 representatives of Italian agribusinesses in June.
Italian Trade Commissioner Enrico Barbieri recalled that Serbia’s exports to Italy grew 40 percent since last year, noting that Italy has emerged as Serbia’s strongest export market.
The Italian Ambassador also expressed hope that Italian carmaker Fiat will resume cooperation with Kragujevac-based carmaker Zastava.
Zanardi Landi also noted that talks on Serbia-Montenegro’s Stabilisation and Association Agreement with the EU could begin in October this year.
