Serbian Minister of Justice Zoran Stojkovic and Head of the OSCE Mission in Serbia-Montenegro Maurizio Massari met today to discuss the work of the Coordinating Body for South of Serbia and the inclusion of ethnic-Albanians from that part of the country in Serbia’s judiciary system as well as cooperation between the Ministry of Justice and the OSCE Mission in the harmonisation of domestic regulations with EU standards.

Stojkovic said that courts across Serbia are being reorganised and that it will allow for hiring a large number of ethnic-Albanians in the municipal courts of Bujanovac and Presevo.
Massari offered the OSCE’s assistance in harmonising regulations from the ministry’s jurisdiction with the standards of the EU and the two officials agreed to sign a memorandum of cooperation that will enable OSCE representatives to take part in the ministry’s working groups preparing new laws.
Stojkovic said that a working group is about to complete a Criminal Procedure Code, envisioning that investigations be conducted by prosecutors and police, and he added that the OSCE will organise the training of prosecutors and police officers so as to speed up the implementation of this law.
Stojkovic and Massari agreed that cooperation between the OSCE Mission and the ministry has been very good so far and they expressed the hope that future agreements will also be successfully carried out.
