Serbia to draft information society strategy

Serbian Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government Zoran Loncar said today that efficiency in the public administration cannot be achieved without a sophisticated information technology (IT) and he added that a national strategy for the development of information society is key to the promotion of such society.

Opening a seminar on the development of a national strategy for an information society, Loncar said that the public administration must open up itself to citizens and he added that such transparency is workable only with a developed IT.
UNDP Resident Coordinator in Serbia-Montenegro Rastislav Vrbensky said that the government, non-governmental organisations, civil society, and the private sector must work together in drafting the IT development strategy. He added that the UNDP will support the setting up of a government IT centre.
Today’s seminar, which marks the beginning of a project to draft a national strategy for an information society in Serbia, was organised by the Ministry of Science and Environmental Protection, the UNDP, and Serbia’s Fund for Open Society.
