Labus, who is taking part in the Crans Montana Forum’s meeting in Zagreb, said that Sanader had congratulated the Serbian government on the positive feasibility study. The two officials also discussed open issues concerning the status of the Serb community in Croatia and they agreed that certain progress has been made in resolving these issues but that there is a great deal more to be done.
In a meeting with representatives of the Independent Democratic Serb Party, Labus discussed the status of the Serb community in Croatia as well as major problems they face and ways to resolve them.
Labus said that this party is explicitly pro-European and that it wants to fully integrate into the Croatian democratic political system.
Labus also met with the founder and president of the Crans Montana Forum, Jean-Paul Carteron, to discuss possibilities to organise the Forum’s meetings in Belgrade in the future.
Labus and Carteron agreed that meetings in Belgrade should initially be limited to specific subjects and smaller gatherings of businesspeople and politicians and later taking the form of meetings like the one held in Zagreb.
Labus also spoke to Croatian Deputy Prime Minister Damir Polancec about economic relations between the two countries and the development of trade and investment.
The two officials agreed that the relations are developing and that there are many possibilities for their further improvement and for the creation of a free trade zone.
Labus announced that the intergovernmental committee’s working group on monitoring the free trade agreement will meet in Belgrade on April 18 and 19.
Labus said that one of the problems is the standstill in the signing of an agreement on phytosanitary veterinary control, which is expected to help increase Serbian food exports to Croatia.
