Speaking at a conference on cluster projects, Pavlovic said that the ministries have had a series of meetings with the German organisation GTZ and he expressed the hope that a dozen Serbian producers of auto parts will soon form a cluster.
He explained that clusters are local networks of companies in the same industry, which band together in order to secure better business terms and prices through joint negotiations. They also seek to benefit from joint operations, business-services, finance, and the exchange of ideas and information.
According to him, there are “pilot-clusters” in Vojvodina’s agricultural sector, which have shown that small investment can help firms to achieve ten times better results after one year.
Today’s conference was attended by around 80 municipal officials from across Serbia, regional chambers of commerce, international organisations, and foreign investors.
The conference was organised by the OECD’s Local Economic and Employment Development (LEED) programme, the Italian Trento Centre for Local Development, and the Serbian Association of Small and Medium Sized Enterprises.
