At the conference on sustainable development organised by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Sweden and the Swedish Business Forum in Serbia-Montenegro, Labus said that Serbia has finally arrived at a point when it no longer has to revive its failing economy but rather can focus on long term development.
According to him, Serbian natural resources are limited, which is why the sustainable development strategy is based more on the harnessing of human resources, including in that investments and knowledge.
The Deputy Prime Minister said that the university system, the non-governmental sector and local self-governments need to be included in the creation of this strategy, and underlined that the Swedish Government, as well as Swedish companies doing business in Serbia, are offering considerable support to Serbia in the preparation of the sustainable development strategy.
Serbian Minister of Capital Investment Velimir Ilic said that cooperation between Sweden and Serbia has enabled the realisation of important investment projects for reconstruction of the transport and railway systems and announced that a Swedish bank would soon open a branch in Serbia.
State Secretary for Economy and Trade of Sweden Lars-Olof Lindgren underscored that Serbia is already making efforts to achieve the high standards of the EU in all areas and that Sweden is prepared to help Serbia in this respect.
