The Ministry of Finance stated today that seven companies have so far applied to participate in a tender for the sale of 51% of shares of Telekom Srbija, and these are Deutsche Telekom, France Telekom, Telekom Austria, América Móvil, Weather Investments, Turkcell and Vimpelcom.
The statement adds that having viewed the submitted documentation, the tender commission concluded that all seven companies qualify for the tender.
The next step in the process to sell the majority share package is for bidders to submit a guarantee of payment in order to view Telekom’s documentation.
State Secretary of Finance Vuk Djokovic stated that the companies can submit a binding offer by 21 February.
If there are several offers, a tender auction will be organised at the end of February in front of television cameras, he added.
He stated that the buyer will be the company that offers the highest price, and in case there is only one offer, Telekom Srbija will be sold at the offered price.
The buyer of a majority stake in Telekom Srbija will have to obtain the approval of the anti-monopoly commission in Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Montenegro, where Telekom Srbija also owns telecommunications companies, and once those licences are granted, payment would follow.
The State Secretary expressed the hope that this could happen at the end of the first half of 2011.
The Serbian government offered a 51% package of shares on sale, out of 80% that the state holds in the company, the statement added.
