In a statement to the Tanjug news agency, Djelic said that during their last meeting in Brussels, EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn stated very clearly that the two processes are not related.
The Deputy Prime Minister, who led a Serbian government delegation to Brussels last week for a
continuation of talks on the Stabilisation and Association Agreement, stressed that the EU expects the Kosovo issue to be resolved where it should be – at the UN Security Council.
Serbia is now trying to show what is not only in its interest, but also in the interest of Europe, and is actively approaching contacts and what is in fact real argumentation based on law and facts, said the Deputy Prime Minister.
According to Djelic, thanks to Belgrade’s such diplomatic approach, Europe is beginning to take into account Serbia’s arguments and treat Serbia in a legally based manner.
He stressed that however, there are no guarantees when it comes to the resolution of Kosovo-Metohija future status and that Serbia will continue working on the preservation of its territorial integrity.
Serbia entered the Kosovo status resolution process on a not very favourable position, but in a year and half it managed to strengthen its position by behaving in a civilised and truly European way, concluded Djelic.
