Serbian Minister of Capital Investment Velimir Ilic visited today the village of Belo Blato in the Zrenjanin municipality where heavy machinery has been brought to help raise the second dike. The 2.8 kilometre dike will be built to defend Belo Blato from the Tisa River.
In a statement to the Tanjug news agency, president of the Belo Blato local community council Erne Tancos said that Minister Ilic was briefed on the status of the defence and that he voiced hope that the machines will be of help to the villagers in their fight against the second wave of the river.
According to hydrologists, the new wave is expected between the Zabalj Bridge and Titel on Saturday. Residents of Belo Blato are planning to build dikes by Saturday to protect the village from which around 10% of people have already moved out.
Besides Belo Blato, the villages Aradac and Lukino Selo on the banks of Tisa are also in danger of flooding.
