Speaking at the Fifth Belgrade Security Forum on the topic "Can Europe redefine itself?", Vucic that the current challenges require a comprehensive solution, otherwise he expressed doubt that the EU Union will survive.
He stressed that Serbia is ready to take responsibility, even greater burden than some EU countries, as well as to accept the quota system, although it is not a member of the EU.
Europe for the first time needs a strong leadership, the Prime Minister reiterated and expressed hope that officials in Brussels, particularly European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Council Donald Tusk, European Parliament President Martin Schulz and German Chancellor Angela Merkel will do something in the name all.
If that does not happen, I am very concerned about the possibility of destabilisation not only of the Western Balkans, but beyond that region too, the Prime Minister warned.
According to Vucic, the situation in Syria demonstrates the weakness of our security theories, since everything was changed with one stroke in a couple of days.
Speaking about the economic situation, the Prime Minister said that our country is out of recession, on the way to dynamic growth and will continue to do so.
The deficit in September, he said, amounted to around RSD 3.5 billion, with economic data certainly being far better compared to the previous year and in relation to what has been agreed with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
He said that the World Bank, the IMF, as well as the Fiscal Council believe that our country is making great progress in the fiscal area.
He said that Serbia can become a new economic power in Europe, and if the fiscal deficit is reduced below the Maastricht Treaty, it will mean a lot for Serbia, the region and the whole of Europe.
Vucic underlined that the main reason Serbia wants to join the EU is not Europe’s money, but rather knowledge, technologies, learning how to create jobs and investments, as well as rules and procedures.
Procedures are not popular among citizens, but they created something that so far has been the best political and econimic area in the world, part of which we would like to become, Vucic stated.
He underlined that Serbia will also work on preserving stability which is a precondition for economic progess, and announced the continualtion of talks with the Pristina delegation on 13 October.
