Minister of Justice and Public Administration Nikola Selakovic stated that the Serbian government managed over the past year to pave the way for building an independent, impartial, professional, responsible and efficient judiciary which is confronting corruption successfully and secures protection of human rights and liberties.

A statement issued by the Ministry of Justice and Public Administration reads that Selakovic underlined at the meeting of the explanatory screening for Chapter 23 that Serbia will be formally presented EU regulations covered by that chapter in Brussels today.
He said that Serbia has worked assiduously during the last year on the implementation of key segments of the EU legal regulations covered by Chapter 23, and these are judiciary, the fight against corruption and human rights.
Serbia adopted national strategies for the reform of the judiciary and fight against corruption for the period of five years, as well as the follow-up action plans.
He added that a commission for monitoring the implementation of the Strategy for reform of the judiciary also started with its work.
This strategy envisages a continuous harmonisation of laws and by-laws with European standards.
The Minister noted that today’s screening is a chance to obtain a full overview of the key documents that set standards in the field of the judiciary, fight against corruption and the protection of human rights.
