Relations between Serbia, Uzbekistan on strong upward trend

Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić met today with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Muzafarbek Madrahimov, who is in Serbia on the occasion of the third round of bilateral political consultations between the two foreign ministries.

Đurić assessed that relations between Serbia and Uzbekistan are on a strong upward trend, thanks to the intensive political dialogue and the historic visit of President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić to Uzbekistan last year, during which 12 bilateral documents were signed.

The head of Serbian diplomacy also recalled this year’s successful visit of the delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia to Tashkent, which is important for the intensification of overall bilateral relations.

He thanked Uzbekistan for its principled and consistent support for preserving the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Serbia, emphasising that Serbia highly values such a friendly country's relationship.

Đurić also expressed satisfaction that Uzbekistan will be represented at the commemorative gathering on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the First Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement in Belgrade, as well as that it will participate in Specialised Expo 2027.

Speaking about economic cooperation, the Serbian Foreign Minister emphasised that there is significant room for its further improvement and welcomed the agreement to hold the first session of the Mixed Commission for Trade, Economic, and Scientific and Technical Cooperation in Belgrade this year.

He particularly stressed the importance of the intention to open the Embassy of Serbia in Tashkent and establish a direct Belgrade-Tashkent airline, as steps that will further contribute to connecting the two countries and their economies.

Đurić thanked Uzbek Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov for his greetings and said that Serbia sees Uzbekistan as one of its key partners in Central Asia.

The Serbian Foreign Minister expressed his belief that the continuation of regular political consultations, the strengthening of economic and parliamentary ties, as well as the implementation of agreed joint projects, will contribute to the further deepening of friendly relations and the building of a strategic partnership between the two countries, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
