Ministerial Advisor at the Serbia-Montenegrin Mission to the European Union Branislav Ceperkovic said today that the World Bank secured $1 billion to finance the gas infrastructure in southeastern Europe.
Speaking at a press conference occasioned by the first meeting of the working group for financing gas infrastructure in southeastern Europe that will be held in Belgrade, Ceperkovic said that the World Bank set aside these funds in order to speed up the construction of gas infrastructure in southeastern Europe as the region is lagging behind the rest of Europe.
According to Ceperkovic, the preparation of studies of priority projects to be financed through World Bank's funds will begin in April. By the end of 2005, it will be known which projects will be financed.
Advisor at the Serbian Ministry of Energy and Mining Branka Tubin said that Serbia is the first country to have submitted studies for two projects applying for World Bank funds.
Director of the Energogas Oil Industry of Serbia Milutin Prodanovic specified that the projects in question are the construction of gas pipeline Nis-Dimitrovgrad and an underground gas storehouse in Banatski Dvor.
