Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Đedović Handanović stated today that Serbia is responsibly and gradually developing its nuclear programme in line with the standards of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
At the opening of a workshop on the role and responsibilities of the Nuclear Energy Programme Implementing Organisation (NEPIO), Đedović Handanović said that Serbia had defined the project tasks for the preparation of all necessary studies in line with the methodology of the IAEA and the IAEA Milestones Approach for developing nuclear infrastructure.
According to her, these include topics such as the regulatory and legislative framework, environmental protection, development of human resources and supply chains.
We expect to be ready by 2032, in institutional, regulatory and professional terms, to select a technology and begin the construction process by 2035, Đedović Handanović explained.
She particularly emphasised the importance of developing domestic expert capacities and welcomed the initiative of the Vinča Institute of Nuclear Sciences and the Faculty of Technical Sciences, University of Novi Sad to launch a master’s programme for educating future nuclear engineers.
