Programme to be prepared for development of domestic gas infrastructure

Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Đedović Handanović met today with a World Bank delegation to discuss the next steps in preparing a new gas programme covering the development of domestic gas infrastructure, including the construction of the first section of the Niš-Velika Plana gas pipeline.

During the meeting, Đedović Handanović highlighted progress in all planned activities within the defined deadlines.

She announced that negotiations with the World Bank on the project financing terms will begin in mid-August, adding that we have experts, engineers and technical personnel who can carry out this major undertaking, worth almost €1 billion.

The new multi-year programme would be implemented in several phases, with the first phase covering the construction of the Niš-Velika Plana gas pipeline section and the preparation of technical documentation for projects to be implemented in subsequent phases.

Phases 2 and 3 of the programme would cover the expansion of existing gas storage facilities and the construction of new ones, along with the associated gas pipelines, as well as the construction of a gas pipeline from Mokrin to Belgrade.

The preparation of studies should also include an analysis of the preparedness of Serbia’s gas infrastructure for the transport of hydrogen.

World Bank representatives expressed readiness to finalise the remaining outstanding issues ahead of the start of negotiations on financing.
