Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Đedović Handanović held a meeting today with representatives of Elektromreža Srbije, Elektroprivreda Srbije, Srbijagas and the City of Niš to discuss further steps in implementing the project to construct a gas-fired power plant near the city.

Intensified work on gas-fired power plant project near Niš

Đedović Handanović noted that work on the project had been intensified in the previous period, while the Preliminary Feasibility Study is also currently being coordinated with Azerbaijan’s SOCAR.
According to her, the gas-fired power plant near Niš is a project of strategic importance, with the aim of completing the new 500 MW facility, which will generate both electricity and heat, by 2030.
This will also be the first joint project of EPS, Srbijagas and Azerbaijan’s SOCAR, which will provide Serbia with additional energy security for its citizens, particularly supporting the development of industry in southern Serbia, Đedović Handanović said.
