The European Agency for Reconstruction (EAR) has sent a donation valued at €1.6 million to blood transfusion centres in Belgrade, Novi Sad and Nis, consisting of hospital beds, blood refrigerators and freezers, incubators, computers and other medical equipment.
Head of the EAR Operational Centre Adriano Martins said that the EAR and the European Union are making continued efforts to improve public health in Serbia, thus raising the quality of medical services to the European level.
Speaking at a press conference held at the Serbian Institute for Blood Transfusion, Martins said that while money and equipment are important, it is much more important to adopt a national strategy for blood transfusion.
Also speaking at the press conference was Director of the Institute Snezana Draskovic, who pointed out that the equipment is of the highest quality and therefore reduces the possibility of human error during the transfusion to the lowest levels.
Serbian Minister of Health Tomica Milosavljevic said that a national conference on transfusion will be held soon, at which a strategy for the next ten years will be discussed.
