The statement specifies that the task of the body is to monitor relations with the court and the competent authorities of the Republic of Serbia, gives suggestions and opinions, and expert explanations in this regard.
The Council will analyse cases related to Serbia before the European Court of Human Rights, prepare the defence in these cases, and provide technical proposals for the harmonisation of national legislation and the application of other individual and general measures for the execution of judgments of the court.
The aim of this body is to reduce the number of complaints against Serbia before the European Court of Human Rights, the successful defence and effective implementation of the decisions of this court.
The Council consists of 11 members from academia and government.
At the first session held yesterday, the Council approved the Rules of Procedure and discussed the cases that will soon be discussed before the Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights, the statement added.
