State Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior Vanja Vukic met today with a delegation of the Group of Experts of the Council of Europe (CoE) on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings (GRETA) to discuss the activities of the Anti-Trafficking Council, headed by Prime Minister and Interior Minister Ivica Dacic.
Vukic presented the Council’s activities on drafting a new anti-trafficking strategy and priorities in this area this year.
CoE representatives pointed to the challenges related to irregular migration and the risk from irregular migrants becoming the victims of human trafficking.
The CoE group of experts arrived to see the activities of the implementation of the Convention of the Council of Europe Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings.
The Convention of the Council of Europe Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings was adopted in Warsaw and was opened for signing in 2005, and came into force on 1 February 2008.
The Convention has been signed by 43 member states of the Council of Europe, while 39 countries have ratified and implemented the document.
The State Union of Serbia and Montenegro signed the Convention in 2005, and the Republic of Serbia, as the successor of Serbia and Montenegro, ratified the Convention in 2009 , which entered into force on 1 August 2005, according to a statement from the Ministry of the Interior.
