Police to take over security at Hungarian border

Serbian Minister of Interior Dragan Jocic said that the first stage of switching border security responsibility from the Serbia-Montenegrin army to police control will happen at the Hungarian border.

Jocic told Beta news agency that the Interior Ministry has already formed an operational headquarters seated in Subotica, adding that the police force will also take control of some facilities and army equipment in this process of transformation.
Professional army members with experience at this border and who have expressed interest in maintaining their posts will be offered positions in the newly created border security police force, Jocic explained.
Speaking about illegal migrations and cross border crime, Jocic noted that border crossings with Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria are the most imperiled parts of the state border.
According to Jocic, security of state borders should be regulated in detail under the law on state borders as well as through a series of other legal acts.
