On this occasion, Bozovic conveyed to Carpenter Serbia’s wish to increase its presence in all segments of work of UN peacekeeping missions.
He also showed interest in the employment of Serbian police experts in the UN headquarters in New York, noting that great experience of the Serbian police obtained in complex circumstances can be very useful to the UN.
Carpenter explained that there are two modalities of participation of member states in peacekeeping missions and that is through individual participation or within formal police units.
He also mentioned a new form of participation, which is in preparation, and entails formation of teams of up to seven police experts specialised in certain fields, whose travelling expenses and per diems would be covered by the UN.
Carpenter promised that all UN member states will be informed in due course about the details of this kind of arrangement and that Serbia will receive an invitation for participation.
He also spoke about the upcoming Third regional meeting on strategic framework guidelines for participation of the police in peacekeeping missions that will be held in Kiev on 19-21 March this year.
During the talks, Bozovic added that the Serbian Ministry of the Interior tries to improve the efficiency of use of EU funds intended for the improvement of police work, highlighting that that is one of the priorities of the government, reads a statement by the Ministry of the Interior.
