Plan of harmonisation with EU legal norms fulfilled 88%

The Serbian government adopted at its session yesterday the final Report on the implementation of the National Programme for Integration of Serbia into the EU (NPI) for the period from July 2008 to 31 December 2012, according to which this four-year plan of harmonisation of the domestic legislation with legal norms of the EU has been fulfilled 88%.
According to the report made by the Serbian government’s Office for European Integration, out of the planned 1,172 regulations (laws and by-laws) 1,030 have been adopted.
In relation to the planned obligations for the fourth quarter of 2012, and taking into account the obligations that were fulfilled in advance, as well as obligations overdue from earlier periods, the NPI has been fulfilled 51%, i.e. 48 regulations have been adopted out of the 94 planned.
Obtaining the candidate status and the forthcoming entry into force of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement, among other things, indicates the need to adopt a new document - a national programme for the adoption of the Community acquis.
The preparation of this document, which will be applied in the next steps in the process of European integration, is in the final stage and all government bodies responsible for the coordination of the EU accession process are working on it.
With the start of negotiations on Serbia’s accession to the EU, the national programme will reflect the results of the negotiations on membership and will cover all legislative activities and reform processes that need to be taken in order to meet the criteria for opening negotiations in each of the 35 chapters, as well as for their closing, reads a statement by the Office for European Integration.
